"X Timeline" is an excellent resource for teachers to use in their classroom. It allows students to create and edit timelines using pictures, music, and video. I think that this is a great resource to use in history and social studies class. Students can make a timeline about a certain culture or time period, or they can also make a biographical timeline, as I did in my example. I created a timeline of my life after high school, and I demonstrated how I could use pictures in the timeline. Another idea that I had about these timelines is that reading teachers could use these timelines while reading historical fiction or non fiction. The timelines could be used to show where the events take place in history. These timelines can be very helpful because they give students a visual representation of the sequences of the history that they are studying. This helps teachers to be able to accomodate visual learners while giving the students an opportunity to explore technology while being creative. I would highly reccomend this for use in the classroom.
Visuwords is an online graphical dictionary and thesaurus that provides a visual representation of definitions of words. It is very helpful because it helps students sort through the different parts of a word's definition and see the relationships between words. Students are able to visually see a representation of words and explore all aspects of its meaning. It is a great tool that allows students to learn in-depth meanings of words and to also use as a resource for finding synonyms, antonyms, and expanding their vocabulary. I love how it gives students a visual, interactive way to learn words besides simply reading them in a book.
I have provided an example with the word "Wisconsin" and "expansion" to show how the definitions are displayed. Notice that there are different graphics that mean different things regarding the definition. This includes phrases such as "is a kind of," or "is a member of." Also, you will notice that scrolling over the different parts of the visual definition will allow you to view additional information about that part of the word.
